Are you the child of an lgbtq parent? A child that is ten, twenty or forty? Read on...
This is a website about changing the coming out experience by offering guidance and direction to those that would like
to be supportive of others during their time of coming out. Clearly, the children of lgbtq people are important in this
discussion.
While this goal is aimed at the lgbtq person, the impact will be felt by the children. And....the difficulties of coming
out are exacerbated by the difficulties faced by the children of the newly out person.
For the children of lgbtq, as well as their parent, the bigger questions are about homophobia and power related to heterosexism.
This website addresses only one small part of that picture -- the time of coming out.
Because children's lives will be improved if their parent's coming out experience is received in a generous and loving
manner, then refiguring the context of the time of coming out is a worthy endeavor for all.
To those ends, your voices are important, essential. How do you wish responses to coming out had been for your parent
and how did those responses assist you in your transition to being a child of an lgbtq parent? How did they help and how could
they have been improved?
